About you
May we credit you by name as the person who shared this story?

Your credit line will read By you on the page, and your name goes in its credits box. Your email is never shown.

Why your story matters

  • It is not written anywhere else

Most of Uganda's history lives in memory. A story told at home is often the only record there is.

  • Your community tells it its way

Pages written with the people they are about stay true. Your words carry your community's voice.

  • It is credited, sourced and kept

We publish with your name, say where it came from, and keep it safe for the next generation.

How it works

  1. 1

    You write it

Four short steps. Save nothing; just tell it.

    10 to 20 minutes

  2. 2

    We read it

An editor reads it and may write with a question or two.

    within two weeks

  3. 3

    We check it

Facts are checked against sources and, where needed, with the community.

    a few weeks

  4. 4

    It goes live

Published with you credited, under a licence that lets others learn from it.

You are credited. Always.

Uganda Culture runs on people who share what they know. Every contribution we publish names the person it came from, in the way they choose, on every page where it appears. Credit is not a footnote here; it is the record of who keeps Uganda's culture alive.

Questions people ask

Does it have to be old or famous?

No. A memory from last year, a custom in your family, a tale your grandmother told: all of it counts. We are as interested in everyday life as in kings.

What if I am not a good writer?

Write it as you would say it. Our editors tidy spelling and layout; they never change your meaning without asking you.

Can I write in my own language?

Yes. Tell us which language in the form. We publish in the original and add a translation where we can.

What happens to my name?

You choose. We can credit you by name or keep you private. Either way your email is never shown.

What will you not publish?

Secret, restricted or sacred detail, anything that names living people without their agreement, and claims we cannot check and you cannot source.

Can I change or withdraw it later?

Yes. Write to us with your reference and we will edit or remove it. The Contributor Agreement explains what stays with us once published.
